SIOL ALPINE is a name given to a number of clans widely separated and having no apparent connection with each other. It is said to include the MacGregors, Grants, MacKinnons, MacQuarries, Macnabs, Macduffies or Macphies, and MacAulays.

The history of the MacAlpines is uncertain and very issusive, and the clan is claimed to be a very ancient one, but its history must be traced through the clans which constituted Siol Alpine the chief of which are described separately in Scottishweb.
